ADAA Position Statement on the ADA Dental Access Model
The American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) is in support of oral workforce models that thoughtfully and strategically expand the role and allowable functions of dental assistants in the effort of improving oral health access to care. The ADAA advocates coupling formal skills-based education with standardized assessment criteria in the delegation of all advanced expanded functions to dental assistants.
Additionally, ADAA firmly maintains that any qualified dental assistant is delegated to perform advanced expanded functions should be compensated with a salary commensurate with the additional education and added responsibility of performing advanced expanded functions.
Further, to maintain and retain a stable dental assistant workforce throughout the nation, the ADAA upholds that all states recognize a universal entry-level dental assistant credential as a means of professional reciprocity when dental assistants must relocate across state lines.
