ADAA February President’s Letter

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and American Heart Month.
As we step into February, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible hearts of dental assistants. Not just because of American Heart Month, but because I see firsthand how much heart and dedication you bring to this profession. Every day, you provide expertise, comfort, and compassion to patients and their families. You are the backbone of the dental team, and your contributions truly make a difference in people’s lives.
This month is also a great reminder of the important role dental assistants play in children’s oral healthcare. Good habits start young, and dental assistants are often the first to educate children and parents about the importance of oral health. Beyond that, you are trained to recognize critical medical and dental concerns, often serving as the first point of contact in identifying health issues before treatment even begins. Your keen eye and attention to detail are invaluable!
I’m excited to share that the February issue of the Dental Assistant Journal will feature insightful articles on these very topics, along with two new Dental Brain Game puzzles for some fun and learning! It’s always inspiring to see how ADAA members contribute to this profession, and we’re so grateful for your commitment to elevating dental assisting.
As Terri Guillemets said, “February is the border between winter and spring”. It’s also a time to prepare for Dental Assistants Recognition Week™ (DARW), which takes place March 2–8, 2025! While it’s still a few weeks away, now is the perfect time to start planning how you’ll celebrate. ADAA has created celebration tools, including downloadable graphics and social media templates, to help you recognize yourself and your colleagues. Visit the DARW page to access materials
We’d love to hear from you! How will you celebrate DARW 2025? Share your plans, stories, and photos with us for a chance to be featured on ADAA’s social media! Take photos of your celebration and email them to socialmedia@adaausa.org! Be sure to also complete the Photo Release Form. Also, don’t forget to check out the DARW 2025 store for exclusive merchandise to commemorate the occasion.
Exciting news for students and educators! The ADAA Merit Scholar Award and Student Achievement Award are now accepting nominations from March 1 to April 13, 2025. These awards recognize outstanding dental assisting students who demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and excellence. If you know someone who deserves to be honored, don’t miss this opportunity! Visit the ADAA Awards & Scholarships page for details and to submit a nomination.
Thank you for everything you do for your patients, your colleagues, and the dental assisting profession. Your dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed! Wishing you a wonderful February filled with appreciation, learning, and celebration.
Warmest regards,
