Professional members receive the most benefits.
The most common type of membership is Professional Membership. Most dental assistants fall into this category because they are not students and have not achieved 35 years of ADAA membership yet. Active Member dues are $135, plus your state/local dues which varies by state. These fees are annual.

International Membership may be granted to any individual who resides outside of the United States and will support and promote the objectives of this Association. Membership is $60 and includes free online continuing education courses. International Members can access e-newsletters, 24/7, and The Dental Assistant Journal online.
The international travel medical insurance and hotel and car rental discounts also apply for International Members. International Members receive discounts on hard copy continuing education, but additional shipping may apply.
ADAA Life Professional membership is granted once a member has had 35 years of continuous membership, not counting years as a Student member.
Current Life Memberships (Life Professional) receive a discount a 25% discount after 35 years of membership. The only life membership category accepting applications is Life Professional. Below are descriptions of all Life Membership categories, although only Life Professional is actively accepting new applications. All forms of Life Membership, even non-paying forms, allow the member to continue receiving The Dental Assistant journal, but other benefits vary by type of Life Membership.
– Life Professional (LPRO): Members who have had 35 years of membership. This category receives a 25 percent discount on national dues. All benefits of Professional membership are included.
– Life Active Member (LA): Members who had 25 years of membership after October 8, 1988, are eligible for this category. Members pay full national dues and state/local dues, unless the State does not require Life Members to pay state/local dues. All membership benefits are available for these members. No current “Professional” type member is eligible for this category. Members who have previously achieved the status “Active Life Member” after 25 years of continuous membership prior to May 13, 2017, may continue to display their life member pin and certificate and use the designation “ADAA Life Member.” These members shall remain listed in the professional member category on the official roster and pay full dues until they achieve life‐member status with thirty‐five (35) continuous years of membership.
– Life Retired (LR): Retired Life Membership shall be granted to any Life Member who has reached age of sixty-two (62) or until a disability prevents employment as a dental assistant. No national dues are required. Discounts, such as travel or rental cars, can still be used, and a free Journal subscription is available upon request. No current “Professional” type member is eligible for this category. If this membership category is of interest to you, please explore the Emeritus membership below.

Emeritus Membership status shall be granted to a professional or life member who has maintained continuous professional membership, or has maintained continuous professional membership interrupted by student membership for a period of at least 25 years and has retired from the field of dentistry/dental assisting at age 60 years or older or has become totally and permanently disabled, and wishes to refrain from the privileges of ADAA Professional Membership on both the National and State levels. Emeritus Members shall pay no dues.
The designation of “ADAA Member Emeritus” may be used by the member for the rest of their natural life.
Emeritus members shall have the privilege of accessing all digital content published by the ADAA on the ADAA website to include ADAA continuing education courses accessed from the website.
The website privileges of the emeritus member shall be contingent on the emeritus member updating his/her emeritus membership status annually via the ADAA membership renewal process.
ADAA Fellows and Masters achieving emeritus status may also maintain their ADAA Fellow or Master designation.
Emeritus members are not allowed to hold any type of officer position either at the National, State or Local level.
Current student membership rate is $45.

Student membership may be granted to any student enrolled in a dental assisting program, or to a graduate of a dental assisting program enrolled full‐time in either a program related to dentistry or in a college degree program, who will support and promote the objectives of this Association. A student member shall have the privilege of serving as a member of a council or committee. Student members shall pay annual dues as determined by the adopted budget of the Association.
Student applicants must list the school/program they are enrolled in as well as anticipated date of graduation.
Program Directors now have the options to sign up their entire cohort online through our website. They will have to select a school from our list. If the school is not already on that list, the Program Director will have the option to add it during the application process.
Student members can individually renew their student membership or the program can renew a group of students. Members who will no longer qualify as student due to graduation may renew at the New Professional Year 1 membership rate. ADAA allows for new professional members to gradually transition from student member dues to professional member dues at reduced rates for the first three years post-graduation.
Graduated Student Dues Discount (offered only to renewing students)
During the first year after graduation, students may renew as New Professional Year 1 for $70 plus state/local dues. New Professional Year 2 dues are $90 plus state/local dues. New Professional Year 3 dues are $110 plus state/local dues.
Membership may be granted to any U.S. Air Force member who completes the registration and who will support and promote the objectives of this Association. An Air Force member shall have the privilege of serving as a member of a council or committee.
All Memberships are individual-based and are for a full year (365 days) from the time the application is processed. To stay an active member of the ADAA, every Air Force account will need to be renewed once a year, on or before the account expiration date.
