Dental team members must understand HIPAA’s role in daily practice. Requirements include maintaining practice-specific documentation, yet many teams lack appropriate information. This program reviews HIPAA essentials, explains how to protect patients’ protected health information (PHI), and helps teams update protocols without replacing each practice’s individualized policies, procedures, or compliance resources.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the purpose and evolution of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and its relevance to dental practice.
- Identify the key requirements of the HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules.
- Recognize common HIPAA violations and the potential legal, financial, and operational consequences of noncompliance.
- Explain the relationship between cybersecurity practices and the protection of protected health information (PHI).
- Apply HIPAA compliance principles to strengthen practice protocols for safeguarding patient information and reducing privacy and security risks.

Upon attendance and completion of a webinar evaluation, you will be sent a CE certificate within 2 weeks of the event. This webinar will be recorded and available on-demand on our e-Learning Center (CE available) within 2 weeks as well.
