Description: As the United States continues to face an access to dental care crisis, dental therapy is often mentioned as a possible solution. This program will discuss how dental therapists are in improving access to care and how this will affect the profession of dentistry. The different types of dental therapists working today will be defined as well as their educational paths. The presenter will share about her journey to become a dental therapist through a pilot dental therapy program which trained dental hygienists with restorative endorsements the additional skills to become dental therapists. The current status of dental therapy education in the United States will also be discussed.
